Doctors from the Post Graduate Institute of Child Health-Noida (PGICH) announced that PGICH has become the first government blood bank in the state of Uttar Pradesh to provide granulocyte transfusion.

Dr. Satyam Arora, a specialist in the department of transfusion medicine, explained that granulocyte transfusion is the method by which granulocytes are obtained from a donor and given to a patient who has extremely low neutrophil counts and a serious bacterial, yeast, or fungal infection.

Professor Ajay Singh, director of the institute said “PGICH-Noida is the first and only government blood bank to provide granulocytes. The main function of neutrophils in the body is to help the body fight infections. Transfusion is needed for patients with a low neutrophil count,” (Times of India, July 14, 2022)
